The AFL now have our 2016 team nominations and it is a great result after much hard work and tough organisation by our President Danny and co.
It sees ALL currently registered players able to play footy this year, increases our teams from last year by 2 plus a Youth Girls team and puts bmkafl in a good position to build over coming years.
BMKAFL has nominated Under 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 14 /15 / 17 and Youth Girls.
The 14 /15 decision was the tough one but after a number of conversations with many of you, president of Bathurst Giants, AFL staff and regional committee it became clear that this was an option for us based on:
- Our numbers split across these teams was comparable to 80% of other clubs in these age groups.
- Regional Committee are looking to adopting min match numbers.
- It would give 14 / 15 / 17 comps 10 teams each and the ability for clubs to follow each other on majority of days in these age groups - youth girls will probably follow as well which could help transport wise for some families.
- Bathurst believe with more time they will be able to provide us some players in 15s at least on home games.
- We will continue to promote including an add in Gazette next week.
- It will allow all currently registered players to play footy this year.
This is a positive outcome, but still leaves us with some challenges:
- Needing a match day coach for one of these teams (probably 14s).
- Needing a manager for at least one of these teams.
- Continuing to recruit more players.
Thanks too to all the players and parents for your help, patients and understanding. Organising teams is the tricky part of the season.
We can also say round one is Sunday April 3.
The game draw is scheduled to be released 30 March.
As usual, we’ll keep you updated as news / developments roll in.
