Half a season down.....more to come!
With the 2015 AFL season already half way through I thought it timely to review the season so far and share some plans / thoughts for the future.
The games
Having now seen at least one game of each age group this year I am impressed by the skill level and style of play being developed, as well as the beahviour all teams are trying to achieve. From our Auskickers and Under 9s through to 17s all are improving their skills and attempting to play good, hard running footy. Our coaches are providing great support and advice and instilling the importance of team work. More importantly all players are conducting themselves in a way that parents and the club can be proud. Naturally there is the occasionally slip but it is occasional! I encourage all players to keep training hard and working on their skills over the rest of the season to get full enjoyment out of the game.
A reminder - the spirit of the game
As the season continues and finals approach for our older teams the competitiveness of games may increase - it is important that as this happens all players, coaches and supporters remember that it is still kids footy and yes winning is great but losing is not the end of the world. I encourage all to continue to play, coach and support in the spirit and style we want the club to be known - Hard to beat, but playing within the rules and supoporting all. As a reminder the Code of Conduct for Players, Supporters and Officials is attached and will be available at all home games at the canteen to review. As a committee we will have no hesitation in taking action against any individual who we feel is in breach of this code and causes damage to the reputation of the club. Please remember support is great - excessive barracking is not - let's reward great efforts from all players, teams and umpires not criticise the mistakes we may feel have occurred.
Our Volunteers
A huge thank you for the work of all on the Committee for the effort put in to date - I don't think I truly appreciated the work that was required to get the season happening and without your help it would not have happened! To our coaches and managers - again thank you for taking these roles on - I hope you are enjoying the ride! To our canteen Manager Kate thanks for keeping us fed and watered, to Our Emergency Response Coordinators, who have already had too much to do, thank you for taking such great care of our players (and other teams as well) when they get hurt. To everyone who has helped out with cooking a BBQ, washing jumpers or providing Oranges - it is these actions that make the club a great place to be - we understand how busy everyone is and that these take you away from watching your kids play but without your help we cannot continue.
Our Sponsors
Hopefully by now everyone is aware of our Sponsors for 2015 and we ask you to support them whenever you can.
Steaks on St George butchers Faulconbridge who are not only providing meat for our BBQs and a great meat trays for a weekly raffle but also a 10 % discount on purchases made to all families. If you are yet to receive your discount card please check with your team manager.
Cheetah recovery compression gear - see website for great deals and the club receives a rebate from each purchase
Chardon and Abbott Home Loans - sponsoring our senior squads for new set or jumpers.
Lessons to date
As a new President and committee we recognise there is much we can improve between now and the start of season 2016 to ensure we get off to a smoother start next year. This includes organising trial games, booking preseason training, and increasing player recruitment earlier. If you have any ideas please let us know!
Upcoming event - Club Trivia Night
Planning is under way for a Trivia Night to be held in the second half of the season - as our major fundraiser and social event we really need your support - start planning tables of ten and more details to come. If you can help in the planning or in providing a prize I am sure Dario would love to hear from you!
I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming games - please come and say hi - I'm likely to be in the cage with a siren in one hand and Sausage Sandwich (from our great sponsor) in the other
Cheers
Danny
