Hi to All Kangaroos Players and Families
I hope all are well and enjoying the off season, it was great to see so many of you at the recent presentation night, congratulations to all players, coaches, managers and supporters for a fantastic 2014!
At the Annual General Meeting last Tuesday I was elected President for the coming two seasons and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who I may not have met or who may be unsure of who I am. My name is Danny Croucher, and with my wife Julie-Ann have lived in Winmalee for the past 8 years, we have 3 kids James (Under 10's), Joshua and Abby (Auskick). We have been involved with the Kangaroos for the past 3 years and I took on the role of Auskick Coordinator this year after working with Roz and Darren over the last two years and joined the committee as Vice President this year. In these three seasons I have been impressed by the spirit with which all teams play, the commitment of the Committee and the way that the families have been involved. I look forward to helping the Kangaroos continue to grow over coming seasons.
I have been involved in AFL for over 25 years having played 15 seasons of Senior Football with Southern Sharks (now Southern Power) in the Sydney AFL, have coached Under 20's and Reserve Grade Teams and held the role of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of that Club over a number of years. So you could say I love my footy! Through this involvement I have learnt a lot and made many great friends. Some of the most important things I have learnt is that for any Club to successful it must have clear vision and values, be open and inclusive of all and cannot be run by one person. Everyone's opinions are valid and valued and the workload needs to be shared by many. I think the Kangaroos current and previous committees have worked hard to achieve these goals and again hope that I can assist in furthering these.
This year sees some significant changes in the Club Committee with a number of members moving on as their sons finish up with the Under 17's and hopefully look at playing for the Penrith Rams or another senior AFL Club. To those departing members a huge thank you for all the work you have done to build the Club over many years. Our outgoing President Cheryl Moore has worked tirelessly to build not only the Club internally but also in developing relationships with other Clubs and the NSW AFL. This effort was recently rewarded by her being made a Life Member of the Club - a fitting acknowledgment of your efforts Cheryl, Thank You.
With the loss of these members we are now looking to you our ongoing families and supporters to help ensure we do not lose momentum. At the AGM we were not able to fill any position on the Executive Committee other than President and have only one confirmed General Committee member, Paul McGannon, who looks after our website and communications. This leaves us in a fairly vulnerable situation as a Club and I would ask all to consider if you are able to join the Executive or General Committee. You do not need to have huge football knowledge or previous committee experience - only plenty of enthusiasm! We need parents from across all age groups of the Club with a variety of administration, finance and event management skills - you may be interested in being Treasurer or Secretary, helping with registration, uniforms or the canteen - perhaps helping run another trivia night or help out on game days. The committee meets for a couple of hours once a month and we will be looking to share the workload across the season, so yes there is work to be done but shared amongst a group it should not become overwhelming!
If this is something you feel you would be interested in and willing to take on, I would love to hear from you. I can assure you plenty of support will be provided and there are a number of existing resources in place, as well as offers of assistance from outgoing committee members.
Planning for season 2015 is already underway, registrations will open in November (more details to come) and we have already received applications for coaches for some teams (Thank you!) but we are still looking for a few more!
As a volunteer Club we are both reliant on and very grateful for the work you our parents and supporters undertake to allow all of our kids to play the fantastic game of AFL. I hope this support continues and that a few of you are willing to join me in taking the next steps for the Kangaroos. If you have any questions or would like to discuss joining the committee further, or any other club matter, please feel free to contact me on 0407 780 359 or email me at vicepresident@bluemountainskangaroos.com.au
I look forward to working with all of you in the coming years
Cheers
Danny
