CROWS ATTACK VOL 8
Our game on Saturday 9th June was the rescheduled washout of round 2. We travelled out to Richmond to take on the Hawkesbury Saints in coolish conditions. We managed to get 16 players up for the game due to sickness and long weekend commitments. The Saints struggled with player number so we started with 12 vs 12.
We won’t give you the usual blow match report as we witnessed probably our best all-round display. It is hard to single out individuals because all the boys did what they could to contribute to our performance. We also played the game hard at the ball and within the rules and unfortunately the Saints suffered a couple of injuries that lead to us lending them a couple of players to keep 12 on the ground. To Victor, Daniel, both Blakes, Lio, Lachlan and Mandev you displayed great sportsmanship and upheld the Crows name with keeping up the intensity when playing for the Saints. Victor kicked their only goal and Daniel punished a couple of our players for not getting over the ball with good body work. After the game a Mum from Hawkesbury came over and thanked us for lending the boys and congratulating them for the way they played. We are very proud of you boys.
Back to the game, we seem to have turned the corner and are heading in the right direction for a place in the finals. We saw the little things like shepherding being done, smothering, spreading the ball wide, knocking the ball out at scrimmages. There even seemed to be some talking happening, like calling for the ball and letting players know they are clear. We can’t slacken off now, there is still a lot to learn and work to be done in the second half of the season. Below are some stats from the first half of the season.
First 4 Games Games 5-8
Points for 133 against 197 Points for 221 against 71
Ave for 33 against 49 Ave for 55 against 18
First half of season Points for 354 against 268 Ave for 44 against 34
We have played 3 teams twice so far, here is a comparison of our performance.
Emu Plains Maroon first time won by 29 points second time won by 40 points
Penrith first time lost by 9 points second time won by 26 points
Hawkesbury first time won by 24 points second time won by 60 points by ¾ time
The stat that causes the most concern is we convert only 44% of our shots on goal!
The stats above show how we have improved over the last 4 games and if the boys listen to ourselves at training and game day we are sure the improvement will continue. You need a blend of players with different skills and attributes to make a successful team. We think we have the ingredients, now we only have to blend them together.
Our next game is SUNDAY 17TH JUNE at Fairfax Reserve Harrington Park. Arrive by 10am, game starts at 10.45am. As usual if you cannot make the game let John or Geoff know asap.
Will be needing assistance as usual running water, messages and someone to wash jumpers. Thanks to Budhi, Ritchie and Matthew’s Mums for doing the jumpers the last 3 weeks.
John, Geoff and Graham
