CROWS ATTACK
This round was set down for a Sunday, a first for us and an introduction to next year’s format when most of the games will be played on a Sunday.
It was a great effort by all to get our full list of players to the game at Richmond to take on the Hawkesbury Saints.. With a squad of 20 we were able to play 15 a side with 5 on the interchange.
The game started and it looked like we had played the game before as we were slow to the ball, if we got there first we fumbled it, basically we were playing like it was our first ever game of AFL. The first break could not come fast enough so we could get together as a group and refocus with the Saints leading 1goal to nil. We needed to get back to basics and play as we had been training the last few weeks.
It is amazing with the boys how they can switch on so fast. From the first bounce at the restart of play they showed what they can do when they focus and follow our structures. A great quarter of football when we kick 6 goals 2 behinds to the Saints 1 goal taking us to the main break with a 26point lead.
We made a few changes in the third quarter to rest Cain and Corey who were off to the PSSA State Carnival the next day. This should not have effected us that much but we did drop off in our intensity kicking 2 goals and allowing the Saints one. Our defence was again very good letting in only 3 goals in ¾ of footy.
The last quarter again proved to be our bogey one as the Saints outscored us by 3 goals to 2. We need to work on this if we are going to challenge the top teams. We need to play like our 2nd quarter for 4 quarters, if we do I think we will be unstoppable.
Final score Crows 10.4.64 Saints 6.4.40
We had a number of hardworking players today. Two of them Tyler and Etienne took each each other out in the 1st quarter but recovered to play great games. Etienne in the ruck won a lot of the ball giving Lio, Corey and Cain first use of the ball. Lio was back to his 2011 form while Corey showed his ability to read the game gathering lots of possessions and kicking 3 goals. Tyler worked non-stop and made some great tackles on bigger players. Kyle again proved a rock in defence and tackled anything that moved. Victor caused the Saints plenty of problems when moved up forward and was well supported by Rowan, Ritchie and Toby. MJ again showed he is one of our most consistent and everywhere he popped up he caused problems for the Saints.
Thanks to Shane our goal umpire, Kyle Doyle-Gordon who ran water for the boys and Brock’s Mum who took the jumpers to be washed.
See you all at Cook Park Saturday 26th May at 9.30am
